Interesting Finds
a new concept
This is a concept for the Amazon Interesting Finds page. I always found the page useful but the overal design to be very simple, so here it is.
- Date May 2017
- Type Individual Project
A brief overview
Interesting Finds is a novel experiment by Amazon which curates and highlights well designed and interesting products. This section offers shoppers a stream of products across a number of categories which would otherwise get lost in the clutter of the original site.
Current Problem
I always found the Amazon.com Interesting Finds page to be very minimal with the uniqueness of the individual products not being emphasized. All the curated products looked the same now, i.e there is no visual distinction from one product to another.
And so once more it was difficult to figure out what we liked from the new clutter. In order to breathe a bit of life into an otherwise interesting idea I decided to redesign it.
Sketches Translated
This is a rough translation of my sketches into wireframes after several iterations. The shapes represent the product images and the filler text the product names and cost.
Process
I felt that all of the content inside of the product cell should adapted to the products color. This will allow the product to standout of its cell with the color accentuating its presence. Since we are all biased to a particular color/shade this should further help us find products that suit our needs.
I modified the design to accommodate the special pages as well (pages which is a collection by itself).
Further highlighting the product by making it more prominent with respect to its surroundings by removing unnecessary information, allowing the user to quickly identify and distinguish the special pages from the products.
